Skiing, Fun and Friendship

SAFETY & RISK AWARENESS

Skiing and other snow based activities that take place at ski areas are a lot of fun, but involve the risk of injury. The information contained in the Safety and Risk Awareness page is intended to inform you of the risks, dangers, and hazards that you may encounter at a ski area and provide information to help you stay safe while enjoying these activities.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL INFORMATION

The Seniors Alpine Ski Club encourages members to always carry an Emergency Medical Information Form with them when skiing.  (Do your ski buddies know about your medical concerns and who to contact in case of emergency?)

The Emergency Medical Information Form is available here. You can download the form, fill it out on your computer, print it and sign it.

We also offer Emergency Medical Information Pouches and labelled envelopes to contain and protect the EMI Forms.  The pouches include lanyards to wear around the neck.  In addition, we advise carrying a whistle in case you are skiing alone and become injured.  Blowing a whistle will alert ski patrollers and other skiers to your situation.

Please see us on Registration Day/Open House to obtain these items.

TRAVEL / HEALTH INSURANCE

If Members have an incident or accident while on a trip, having insurance could save a large bill. The Seniors Alpine Ski Club does NOT carry trip cancellation / health Insurance, nor is it available through the Club. Tour participants should make their own insurance arrangements, particularly for tours outside Canada and preferably for tours outside Alberta, and make sure that they carry the insurance contact information and their own identification with them at all times.

WAIVERS

As part of Risk Awareness, members should be aware of the Risks inherent in Skiing. Members should also take time to read the various Waivers that must be accepted as part of participation in both the Seniors Alpine Ski Club and skiing activities. SASC members are required to accept the SASC Waiver when they join SASC and prior to every ski season, when they renew their membership. For members who just clicked the box and didn't read the SASC Waiver, you should probably review it on the SASC Waiver page

Anyone who has purchased a season pass is undoubtedly aware of the multi-step waiver acceptance process that is part of a season pass purchase. Even an ordinary lift ticket comes with a Waiver that participants may not have taken time to read. The following image is the standard waiver for Alberta.

SAFETY

The best way to avoid any issues or concerns with Risk, is through Risk Aversion and by skiing safely. This starts with the Skiiers Responsibility Code. Below are the Skiiers Responsibility Codes for Alpine and Cross Country Skiing.

Helmets

The Seniors Alpine Ski Club and all ski areas recommend that everyone should wear a helmet. Here is a link to Ski Canada's Helmets Page
